At Roots of Purpose, we believe that strong communities are built when people are given the tools, support, and opportunity to thrive. Today, we are standing at a pivotal moment—one that has the potential to transform lives across South Louisville for generations to come.

A longtime community anchor, Messiah Trinity Church, is closing its doors and has generously donated its building to Roots of Purpose. This gift gives us a rare and powerful opportunity: to transform this space into a community center dedicated to workforce development, career readiness, economic empowerment and community engagement.

This center will not simply be a building—it will be a launchpad. A place where individuals can gain job skills, receive career support, access resources, and take meaningful steps toward long-term stability. When people have pathways to employment and opportunity, entire neighborhoods benefit.

Why This Matters—Right Now

Poverty and economic instability do not exist in isolation. They affect our workforce, our local economy, and the overall health of our community. Investing in prevention and empowerment costs far less—both financially and socially—than responding to crisis after crisis.

By helping people secure stable employment and build sustainable futures, this community center will:

  • Strengthen Louisville’s workforce

  • Increase household income and economic participation

  • Reduce reliance on emergency and public assistance services

  • Create ripple effects that benefit families, employers, and neighborhoods alike

This is a proactive solution rooted in dignity, opportunity, and community investment.

How You Can Help

To open the doors of this center, we are working to raise $10,000 by the end of February to cover initial renovation and operational costs. Every dollar raised helps us move closer to turning this vision into reality.

There are several ways to get involved:

  • Make a donation at any level

  • Become a founding sponsor, helping lay the foundation for this work

  • Share your skills, connections, or time to help us build partnerships and expand impact

Founding sponsors will be recognized as early champions of this effort—individuals and organizations who stepped up when it mattered most.

A Call to Action

Moments like this do not come often. We have the space. We have the mission. We have the community need. What we need now is support.

If you believe in investing in people, strengthening our workforce, and creating lasting change, we ask you to stand with us. Your contribution today helps ensure that this building becomes a place of hope, opportunity, and progress for our neighbors.

Together, we can turn generosity into action—and opportunity into impact.

This winter, we are excited to announce our initiative to collect winter essentials to pass out to our community in downtown Louisville. Our goal is to create holiday gift bags filled with items that convey warmth and care. Below is a detailed list of items we are collecting, along with information on how each item will help those in need.

Items Needed for Holiday Gift Bags

  • Coats & Jackets

Warm outerwear is essential during the winter months. We are looking for gently used or new coats and jackets in various sizes to ensure everyone can stay warm.

  • Blankets

Blankets provide warmth and comfort. They can be used for sleeping outdoors or as an extra layer of warmth at home.

  • Hats

Warm hats help retain body heat and protect against cold winds. We welcome all styles, including beanies and knitted caps.

  • Gloves

Gloves are crucial for keeping hands warm. We are collecting both fingerless and full-finger gloves to accommodate different needs.

  • Scarves

Scarves can provide warmth around the neck and face. They are a versatile accessory that can be worn in various ways.

  • Socks

Warm, dry socks are essential for comfort. We are looking for new, thick socks to help keep feet warm during the cold weather.

  • Lotion

Winter can be harsh on the skin. We are collecting moisturizing lotions to help prevent dryness and maintain skin health.

  • Hand Sanitizer

To promote health and hygiene, we are collecting hand sanitizers to help keep our community safe during the cold and flu season.

  • Wipes & Toilet Paper

Personal hygiene items are essential. We are collecting wet wipes and toilet paper to ensure that everyone has access to basic sanitation needs.

  • Cotton Balls

Cotton balls can be used for personal care and hygiene. We are collecting them for various uses, including first aid and cosmetic needs.

  • Soap/Body Wash

Basic hygiene is important for everyone. We are collecting bars of soap and body wash to help individuals maintain cleanliness.

  • Nail Clippers

Nail clippers are a small but important hygiene item. We are collecting them to help individuals take care of their personal grooming.

  • Candles or Candle Wax

Candles can provide warmth and light. We are collecting them to help brighten the spirits of those in need during the long winter nights.

  • Non-Perishable Food Items

Food security is a critical issue. We are collecting non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, and rice to support those who may be struggling to access meals.

Your generous donations will make a significant difference in the lives of many individuals and families in our community. Thank you for your support and for helping us spread love and warmth this holiday season!
